Adult ESOL Program


English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Program

PURPOSE: The purpose of this course is to help students communicate in English, and allow them to acquire English language skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) adult program is a Workforce Development initiative funded by the Florida State Department of Education.  The approved courses are:

  • Literacy for Adult ESOL Learners  (Program # 9900300)
  • Adult English Literacy - Core ESOL (Program # 9900040)
  • English Literacy for Career and Technical Education – ELCATE (Program # 9900050)
  • College and Career Readiness (Program # 9900051)
  • Citizenship (Program # 9900090)

The program is designed to develop all components of language – speaking, listening comprehension, reading, writing, grammar, and pronunciation – in content.  The methodology is communicative, integrative, and student centered, as recommended by current research on language acquisition and adult learning. Miami-Dade County Public Schools Adult ESOL program offers all approved courses in numerous on-campus and off-campus classes. Adult ESOL program services students 16 years of age or above.  Classes are  for students who reside in Miami-Dade County.
